football

Things are a-buzz in Europe with the UEFA European Championship Finals in football (the real one). On Sunday, the Turks played the Czechs in what was one of the most epic matches ever. It was dubbed The Miracle of Geneva. Down 2-0 with 15 minutes left in the match, Turkey scored an incredible goal and then rallied to score 2 goals in the final 3 minutes, taking a 3-2 lead and winning to advance to the quarterfinals. I found some nice highlight videos. In Turkish and in English. In the Turkish video, you can see what times the goals took place. For the one in English, you might as well skip to about 12:20 in the video and watch the following 2 minutes.

In the glorious picture above (which I took), my roommate Costa sits in his room at home in front of two TVs showing the matches involving Holland vs. Romania and Italy vs. France. Also you might notice the laptop which I used to look up statistics and chat with Misa. Also you might notice the Dutch beer.

So what is the point of me writing all this on the family bulletin? Well, between our other duties and interests, Misa and I have been focusing intently on this tournament. This sport is just addictive. You become familiar with some of the players on each of the teams and some of the countries and people from those countries, and you find yourself really rooting for a team or two. Everything is really heating up now. There are only 7 teams left in the tournament with Germany having beaten Portugal for a place in the semifinal. Anyway, all of this will help you to predict my mood without even talking with me. You can just check up on how Turkey does against Croatia on Friday. :) ok ok I'll stop.
